The film begins with planning a dinner party. Luka and Sarah invite their friends over for dinner and we see Luka having a deep conversation with Frank about the concept of soul mates. Luca refuses to believe in the idea that there is only one true partner for every person. Instead, he claims that if the reality were different, he might not be with his partner Sarah and find love in someone else. Frank tries to explain the beauty of the concept of soul mates, and then Luca and Sarah decide to share a story that will challenge the concept. This story took place two years ago when Luca and Sarah decided to invite four of their friends to dinner. When Luca's friends Dario and Matteo arrived early for dinner, the couple decided to share important details about Sarah's friends before they arrived. Gilia was a mathematician, described by Luca as confident and sexy, while Chiara was an anesthesiologist, "the girl from the next street". Friends had doubts about the couple's intentions, as they seemed too eager to introduce their friends to each other. Luka denied this accusation and asked them to simply enjoy their dinner. The pair then talk about four possible outcomes of a small lunch with Frank. The film unfolds four possible outcomes. In one of them, Dario will find love in Gilia. Their similar personalities helped form a bond, although the difficulty was getting over their egos and confessing their true feelings. In this reality, Matteo finds solace in Chiara for the same reason - they were similar. Their relationship was also not strewn with roses.
