The Bear is an American comedy-drama television series created by Christopher Storer. It premiered on Hulu on June 23, 2022, and stars Jeremy Allen White as a young, award-winning chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to manage the chaotic kitchen at his deceased brother's sandwich shop. The supporting cast includes Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, and Matty Matheson.[1] The series has received critical acclaim, with particular praise for the directing and performances of its cast. In July 2022, it was renewed for a second season,[2] which was released on June 22, 2023, and consists of 10 episodes.[3]
The sandwich shop interior is copied from the real-life Chicago shop Beef on Orleans, in River North. The creator was a frequent patron and friends with the son of the owner.[4]
For the first season, the series was nominated for Best Comedy Series at the Critics' Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards.[5][6] White won Best Actor in a Comedy Series at the Critics' Choice Television Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.[7][8][9] Additionally, Edebiri was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the Critics' Choice Awards,[5] while the series' ensemble cast was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.[10 ]
