In the harsh reality of the 14th century, justice could only be achieved with weapons. When the knight Jean de Carrouge accuses his neighbor Jacques Le Gris of raping his wife, the king decides - the men must fight in a duel. If Carrouge loses, his wife Margaret will face execution for libel. The situation is complicated by the fact that Jean and Jacques were friends, and several people stand up to defend the suspect.
