The protagonist of Season 5 of Black Lightning is a man named Jefferson Pierce. He was once a superhero, the only one of his kind to be protected by his own community from the criminal gang known as the 100. At the behest of his beloved wife, Lynn, he gave up his career as a vigilante to become a leader. Now he is the principal of the school and is raising his daughters Anissa and Jennifer, not being in danger in battle and trying to keep an eye on his beloved family.
However, the 100 didn't go away like he did, and only became a bigger, much more serious threat to the city, school, and Pierce's family, and the central character must return to being a superhero if he wants to protect everything he cares about. In addition, the daughters, who have been kept in the dark about the past of their own father, are confused when each begins to show their own powers, unexpectedly for the people around them. Although the series was not originally set in a separate comic book universe, Jefferson eventually appeared in a crossover. The project was developed by Salim Akil, who is co-producing with his wife Mara Brock.
