The main character is a veteran of the Marine Corps Lincoln Jefferson, in order to improve relations with his son and be closer to him, he gets a job as a cleaner in a California school. And soon his son is accidentally killed by a policeman, during a routine check on the road. The shooter was found not guilty. But Lincoln is not ready to come to terms with this state of affairs. He takes the police station hostage and organizes a real trial there.
