The Fellowship of the Ring has disintegrated. Frodo and Sam continue on their way to Mordor, following Gollum. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli go in search of Mary and Pepin, captured by the Urukhai. They will have to engage in battle with the hordes of Sauron, seeking to destroy the kingdom of the people of Rohan.
