While working in his laboratory, scientist Barry Allen is exposed to dangerous toxic chemicals when they are struck by lightning from a thunderstorm. His DNA changes rapidly and he gains a super-ability - fantastic speed. He decides to use his abilities to protect society from the exorbitant growth of crime.
